Bainville Girls Beat Nashua In Opener

Bainville’s girls’ basketball team cruised to a 59-13 victory over Nashua to start its season in Glasgow on Friday, Dec. 5.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 22-5 advantage in the first quarter. Chandi Johnson accounted for eight points in the period. Jaylynn Bjorge and Addison Hansen each added four points.

Bainville enjoyed a 39-9 half-time lead. Hailey Berwick tallied five points in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs increased the margin to 51-13 during the third quarter.

Johnson led the Bulldogs with 14 points.

Also scoring for Bainville were Berwick with nine, Hansen with eight, Bjorge with six, Johnna Ryder with six, Jodi Albus with four, Lila Butikofer with four, Siena Martinez with two, Annalyce Sorenson with two, Emmalye Anderson with two and Tenley Berwick with two.

Dyllan Bergstrom scored 11 points for Nashua.

Bainville fell short against Class C power Chester/Joplin/ Inverness, 48-38, during action in Glasgow on Saturday, Dec. 6.

“It was a good battle,” Bainville Coach Lance Berndt said. “Chester is a very good team that returned four starters and gained a 6-2 transfer All-Conference player from Twin Bridges.”

The Bulldogs trailed by only a 9-8 margin at the end of the first quarter, but the scoring of 6-3 junior Brynn Kammerzell led the Hawks to a 23-9 advantage in the second period.

Two free throws and a pullup jumper by Hailey Berwick cut the gap to 23-13, but a basket by Kammerzell produced a 25-13 half-time margin.

A three-point play by Berwick and a baseline shot by Lila Butikofer late in the third quarter helped the Bulldogs close to 35-24 in the third quarter.

After CJI increased the margin to 45-27, the Bulldogs ran off eight straight points on two baskets by Chandi Johnson, a basket off a rebound by Addison Hansen and a 16-footer by Jaylynn Bjorge.

The Bulldogs came as close as 48-38 when Berwick fired in a three-pointer with 1:08 remaining.

Berwick led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Johnson and Hansen added six points each.

Also scoring were Jodi Albus with five, Bjorge with two and Butikofer with two.

Kammerzell finished with 27 points for the Hawks.
