Bainville Defeats Culbertson Squad In League Match
        
    
Bainville downed Culbertson in straight sets to end their regular season volleyball schedule on Thursday, Oct. 23.
The Bulldogs earned a 259, 25-17, 25-11, conference victory.
The serving of Lila Butikofer along with the net play of Casey Myers and Jaylynn Bjorge led Bainville to a 10-3 advantage in the first set.
After a block by Culbertson’s Emma Berwick and a spike by Mariana Burciaga, the Bulldogs took further control on kills by Myers and Chandi Johnson. Aces by Johnson put the margin at 176. Kills by Myers and Hailey Berwick increased the gap to 21-9. Aces by Myers down the stretch produced the 25-9 final in the first set.
Kills by Butikofer and Berwick highlighted action as the Bulldogs gained a 14-3 lead in the second set. After a spike by Culbertson’s Charity Wilbanks was good for a point, Bainville’s Berwick scored two more kills for a 15-5 advantage.
The Cowgirls were able to cut the gap to 19-14 on an ace by Ayden Ator, but net winners by Bjorge and Butikofer put the margin at 22-15. The second set ended, 25-17, on a kill by Bainville’s Berwick.
A kill by Culbertson’s Berwick helped keep the Cowgirls close at 9-5 early in the third set, the Bulldogs took a 12-6 lead on kills by Bjorge and Johnson. A block by Addison Hansen and a kill by Butikofer increased the margin to 16-8.
Berwick accounted for two kills in a row to put the score at 20-9. The Bulldogs scored on kills by Annalyce Sorenson and Johnson down the stretch for the 25-11 final.
Myers served for 23 points during the match. The junior had two assists, two kills and 15 digs. Hansen finished with three kills, two blocks and five digs.
Berwick scored 14 kills, 10 digs and a block. Butikofer had five kills, 12 digs, an ace and 29 assists. Johnson accounted for five kills, three aces and a block.
Bjorge added four kills and a block. Siena Martinez had eight digs. Johnna Ryder finished with an ace, an assist and 18 digs.
Leaders for the Cowgirls included Catherine Donaldson with three kills, an ace, a block and two digs. Leandra Perkins had two kills and 12 digs.
Burciaga scored three kills, an ace and 16 digs. Payton Labatte had two kills and eight digs.
Berwick finished with two kills, a block and six digs. Ator had two aces, three kills, 11 assists and nine digs.
The district tournament begins on Thursday, Oct. 30, in Culbertson.
