Red Hawks’ Comeback Falls Short In Plevna
The Froid/Lake Red Hawks almost accomplished a great comeback but lost, 32-27, during football play in Plevna on Saturday, Sept. 27.
After Plevna gained a 32-18 advantage early in the fourth quarter, the Red Hawks were able to pull to 32-20 when a bad snap resulted in a safety with 2:20 remaining.
The Red Hawks were in scoring position after the free kick. A pass from Rylan Young to Teegan Fossum resulted in a touchdown with 1:17 left. Aaron Orozco ran in the conversion to cut the margin to 32-27.
Froid/Lake had a final chance when Eddie Orozco recovered a fumble at the 38 with 49 seconds left. A scramble by A. Orozco gained 14 yards at the Plevna 28. A. Orozco then connected with Carsen Kelm at the 14 with nine seconds remaining. A run by E. Orozco was good for two yards to the 12 with three seconds left. The Red Hawks were stopped at about the five on the contest’s final play.
After Plevna jumped out to a 20-0 lead, the Red Hawks got on the scoreboard when A. Orozco ran in from the two with 4:59 remaining in the half.
E. Orozco returned the opening kickoff of the second half 67 yards for a touchdown to close the margin to 20-12.
The Cougars, however, increased their lead to 2612 with 7:39 left in the third quarter. The Red Hawks pulled to 26-18 on a six-yard dash by Fossum with 3:17 remaining in the third period.
Froid/Lake will host Terry on Saturday, Oct. 4.
