Cowboys Stop Poplar, 58-8


The Culbertson Cowboys jumped out to a 38-0 halftime lead and defeated Poplar, 58-8, at home on Friday, Sept. 12.
The Cowboys struck on their first offensive possession when quarterback Brooks Solem broke loose for a 38-yard touchdown run for a 6-0 lead.
After a sack by Micah Eagle Boy put the Indians back to the one-yard line, Aden Drake sacked Poplar’s quarterback for a safety.
After the free kick, the Cowboys marched into Poplar territory on runs by Eagle Boy and Mauricio Mena. Facing a fourth-and-situation at the 34, Culbertson scored when Solem hit Mena with a pass at the 16 and the junior raced into the end zone. Mena added a conversion kick for a 16-0 advantage.
Culbertson’s final touchdown of the opening quarter came on a three-yard keeper run by Solem. On the twopoint conversion, Solem passed to Ian Snyder for a 23-0 margin.
The Cowboys kept rolling on a 59-yard touchdown dash by Solem. The margin became 31-0 when Solem hit Drake on the two-point conversion.
The Indians drove as deep as the Culbertson nine on their next possession, but the threat ended without points.
A 49-yard throw from Solem to Mena produced another touchdown for the Cowboys. Mena kicked the conversion for a 38-0 lead.
The powerful running of Eagle Boy got the Cowboys into scoring position early in the third quarter. The Cowboys reached the end zone on a seven-yard run by Eagle Boy.
Culbertson’s next touchdown came on a 37-yard interception return by Snyder. Mena’s kick put the margin at 51-0.
After Poplar scored on a two-yard run in the fourth period. Culbertson’s Trust Magwaba ran 70 yards for a touchdown.
The Cowboys will travel to Circle on Friday, Sept. 19.
