Program Provides Disc Golf Instruction To Area Youth

Area youngsters learned a new activity when the Fort Peck Caŋku program offered a day of disc golf at the Lewis and Clark Park (Bridge Park) south east of Wolf Point on Tuesday, June 24.

“It’s something to do outside for the kids,” Molly Redpath, one of the local coordinators, explained. “A lot of the kids don’t do many things outside.”

The course at the park featured nine holes. The program provided the frisbees for the young participants.

“Hopefully, it will inspire them to buy their own frisbees,” Redpath said of gaining interest in the recreation. Bryor Smith, coordinator of the Wolf Point Caŋku program, added, “It’s just a new activity to try.”

Each of the four community coordinators have a special day to coordinate. Disc golf was organized by Frazer coordinator Davyn Myrick. About 20 individuals showed up to participate.

“None of these kids have actually ever played before,” Smith said. “They seem to like it. It’s fun. Hopefully, more kids will try it.”

Jessica Pipe, director of the Fort Peck Caŋku program, was pleased with the turnout and the enjoyment of the young people were experiencing.
