Thinking back on the recent school year, it was a time of great runs by area sports teams.

Watching Culbertson’s football team was exciting to watch for most of 2024. Highlights included a hardfought victory at Scobey and a home win over Circle.

It was also fun to watch the Cowboys dominate action as they stopped Ennis in the first round of the playoffs by a 42-6 final. Culbertson exploded for 28 points in the first quarter and cruised to the win.

The Cowboys lost to powerhouse Belt in the quarter-final round, but it was certainly a season to remember for Culbertson’s football followers.

Bainville provided many great moments this season on various athletic fields.

One of my most favorite recent photos was a shot featuring Bainville’s girls’ volleyball players celebrating after winning a key point in their upset victory over Scobey at the divisional tournament. You can see the joy and excitement in their faces as they were reaching that level of success.

The third-place trophy from that tournament was Bainville’s first from a divisional volleyball tourney.

When the basketball season came around, many of those same girls keep achieving success. The Bulldogs won both the conference and district titles for the first time since 1983.

Again, they came home with hardware as they placed third at the divisional tournament.

Bainville’s boys also should be commended for earning their league’s regular-season championship.

Even though their home playoff game wasn’t something to remember forever, the Bulldogs should be proud of what they accomplished this season and the future looks bright for the program. Froid/Lake’s girls also provided several thrills during the girls’ basketball season.

After entering the district tournament as only the sixth seed, the Red Hawks opened play with a 53-44 win over Brockton. The Red Hawks then shocked Plentywood, 44-42, in the semi-final round in an exciting contest that went down to the final seconds.

Placing second at the district tournament was a great accomplishment for these hard-working girls. They went on to give Circle a good fight before falling short, 4841, at the divisional tournament.
