Culbertson, Bainville Athletes Place At State Meet
Athletes from Culbertson and Bainville came away with individual honors during the Class C track meet held in Laurel on Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30.
Culbertson’s freshman Anna Steppler completed the 3200-meter run in a personal best time of 12:17.77 for fourth-place honors.
Plenny Williams, a junior, earned fourth place in the discus for the Cowboys with a season best e_ort of 143-11.
Brooks Solem, a junior, placed fifth in the javelin with a mark of 165-11.
Solem and Ian Snyder each came close to placing in the high jump by clearing 5-10. Trust Magwaba finished seventh in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.43 seconds. The 400-meter relay team of Harrison Green, Snyder, Mauricio Mena and Magwaba was also seventh.
Leading Bainville’s boys was Kaiden Holmes with a season-best time of 2:02.49 for fourth place in the 800-meter dash.
Addison Hansen earned fifth place in the discus with a personal best of 114-9. The distance improves on her school record mark.
Hailey Berwick came through with strong e_orts to win two sixth-place medals at the meet. Berwick ran the 200 in a personal best time of 26.54 seconds for a new school record. She finished the 400 in 1:01.21.
Bainville’s boys’ 400-meter relay team consisting of Keagan Vaira, Holmes, Parker Berwick and Rowan Wilson set a new school record at 45.82 seconds.
Richey/Lambert ran away with the girls’ team title with 78 points. Belt placed second with 48 points and Turner took third with 35 points.
Leading the Fusion to the title were first-place performances by Jolee Klempel in the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, shot put and long jump, and Brynne Hill with a state championship in the triple jump.
The Lions accounted for 71 points for second place in the boys’ division. Cascade won the Class C championship with 82 points.
Johnslee Pierre led Lustre with first-place showings in the long jump, triple jump, 400-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles.
Other Eastern C athletes winning state titles were Whitewater’s Kennedy Simonson in the javelin and Saco’s Emerson Downing in the pole vault.
