Track athletes place in Sidney

 

Culbertson, Bainville Athletes Place At Opening Meet

Track athletes from Culbertson and Bainville opened their season at the Sidney early-bird invitational held on Saturday, March 28.

Culbertson took sixth with 40 points and Bainville was seventh with 21 points in the boys’ standings. Williston, N.D., topped the standings with 141.33 points.

Bainville placed fifth in the girls’ standings with 39 points. The Cowgirls were eighth with 26 points. Dickinson, N.D., earned first with 128 points.

Brooks Solem led the Cowboys by earning first in the javelin with a mark of 166-8 and third in the high jump by clearing 5-10. The junior finished third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.79 seconds.

Ian Snyder cleared 5-8 for fourth place in the high jump. The senior took sixth in the 100 at 11.86 seconds.

Trust Magwaba finished fifth in the 100 at 11.82 seconds.

Harrison Green earned fifth in the 400 with a time of 55.94 seconds and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles at 49.19 seconds.

Cal Steppler finished fifth in the 3200 at 11:41.06.

Culbertson’s boys’ 400-meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 47.05. Running the race were Green, Snyder, Mauricio Mena and Magwaba.

Highlights for the Cowgirls were two second-place showings. Emma Berwick placed second in the shot put at 32-6. Anna Steppler finished second in the 3200 at 13:35.73.

Rebekah Ellerkamp placed fourth in the 3200 at 16:52.03.

Culbertson’s girls’ 1600-meter relay team consisting of Kalia Featherston, Bella Petersen, Stella Fox and Steppler finished fifth with a time of 5:01.82.

Petersen earned fifth in the 400 at 1:10.59.

Leading Bainville’s girls were strong performances from seniors Hailey Berwick and Addison Hansen.

Berwick finished first in the 400 at 1:01.77, second in the 100 at 13.12 and fourth in the javelin with a mark of 948.

Hansen earned first in the shot put at 33-5 and third in the discus at 103-2.

Casey Myers placed sixth in the javelin with a mark of 87-11.

In the boys’ division, Kaiden Holmes ran to a first-place finish in the 400 with a time of 2:07.23. The senior took fourth in the 400 at 53.27.

Rowan Wilson placed third in the 800 at 2:14.96.

Keagan Vaira took sixth place in the 400 with a time of 56.58.
