Students Place At Divisional Meet
The Culbertson/Froid/Bainville speech, drama and debate team had a very eventful divisional tournament in Shepherd on Saturday, Jan. 24.
The team dealt with arctic cold, an unexpected evacuation during finals due to a fire and a relocation to Huntley Project High School where their coach and administration used their quick planning and organizational skills to get finals back on track. It wasn’t ideal, and there were tears and trauma evident in the finals round.
The team handled the trauma and stress with grace and decorum, finishing the day by bringing home the firstplace Class C speech sweepstakes trophy as well as second- place drama sweeps (tie-breaking procedures were used to break our tie for first).
Individual placings were as follows: Harper Anderson, first, dramatic solo Harrison Green, first, impromptu Colt’n Rees, second, memorized public address.
Josie Simonsen, third, memorized public address.
Vala Gregor and Samantha Austin, second, classical theater Blake Reed, third, Lincoln/ Douglas debate.
Scarlet Mahoney, third, original oratory.
Harper Struna, third, program oral intrepretation.
Jaxon Flinn, sixth, informative Jaclynne Taberna, seventh, humorous oral intrepretation. HOI The team heads for State, hosted by Broadwater High School in Townsend this upcoming weekend.
