Cowgirls Come Up Short In Savage, 34-33

The Culbertson Cowgirls lost a 34-33 heartbreaker at Savage on Friday, Dec. 19.

Culbertson gained a 1210 lead in the first half. The Cowgirls increased their advantage to 22-18 in the third quarter.

After Savage moved ahead 28-17 midway into the fourth quarter, Culbertson regained the lead on a nice drive by Payton Labatte with 4:52 remaining. The Warriors took a 30-29 lead on an inside basket by Aspen Peterson.

After a hoop by Culbertson’s Bella Petersen with 3:05 left, Savage’s Peterson scored again to put the Warriors up 32-31 with 1:52 remaining.

The Cowgirls earned a 3332 lead on a turnaround shot by Emma Berwick with 1:20 left. After Savage received the ball on a jump ball with 14 seconds left, Peterson hit a 14-footer with five seconds remaining to put Savage ahead 34-33. The Cowgirls were unable to get a final shot off.

Top scorers for Culbertson were Berwick with 12 and Labatte with eight points.

Also scoring were Ivy Colvin with four, Petersen with four, Anna Steppler with two, Ayden Ator with two and Charity Wilbanks with one.
