The Lustre Lions cruised to the District 3C district boys’ track title with 234 points during action in Glasgow on Saturday, May 13.

Scobey placed second with 141 points and Nashua took third with 54 points.

The top three teams in the girls’ standings were Scobey with 190, Hinsdale with 107 and Whitewater with 82. Lustre’s girls scored four points for eighth place.

Lustre’s Jasiah Hambira had an outstanding day for the Lions, highlighted by clearing a personal best of 6-5 in the high jump.

“It was awesome,” Hambira said of accomplishing the feat.

He noted that he has been struggling with injuries from basketball season during much of this track campaign.

“I should be all right now,” he said.

Hambira added first-place performances in the long jump (20-3), 200 (23.43) and 400 (58.1). He placed second in the triple jump at 41-7.

Johnslee Pierre also had an excellent meet by taking first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.33), first in the 300-meter hurdles (43.19) and first in the triple jump (41-8). The freshman placed second in the long jump at 20-1.

One of the thrills for Lustre’s fans came in the 800 when freshman Diek Olfert edged Scobey’s Kaz Holum at the end for a first-place finish at 2:30.03.

Both of Lustre’s boys’ relay teams finished first. The 400-meter relay team of Terran Joseph, Byron Ewing, Ife Aniobi and Braden Ewing took first at 47.7. The 1600-meter relay team consisting of Byron Ewing, Emeka Aniobi, Joseph and Pierre had a time of 3:49.79.

Joseph finished first in the 100-meter dash at 11.6 seconds.

Placing second for the Lions were Braden Ewing at 23.85 in the 200, I. Aniobi at 49.36 in the 300-meter hurdles and Elijah Lenihan with a best of 119-10 in the javelin.

Earning third were Braden Ewing with a mark of 39-6 in the triple jump and time of 12.03 in the 100, Lehinan by clearing 5-8 in the high jump, Mason Hilkemann with a mark of 116-10 in the javelin, Olfert at 13:38.21 in the 3200, Cayden Klatt at 5:59.79 in the 1600 and 2:32.98 in the 800 and Byron Ewing at 1:00.39 in the 400. Placing fourth were Olfert at 6:08.11 in the 1600 and Klatt at 13:39.04 in the 3200.

Taking fifth were Naveen Pilla at 58.81 in the 300-meter hurdles and 23.55 in the 110-meter hurdles, Lenihan at 13:52.30 in the 3200, Hilkemann at 88-9 in the discus and Olfert by clearing 5-2 in the high jump.

Earning sixth were Braden Ewing at 18-3 in the long jump, Nathan Fast at 86-10 in the discus, Bryon Ewing at 32-11 in the shot put and E. Aniobi at 2:36.08 in the 800.

Lustre’s girls’ 400-meter relay team of Mana Okamoto, Meredith Valentine, Angie Fontus and Rachel Pew with a time of 1:06.65 for fourth place.

Also qualifying for divisional by placing in the top eight in events were I. Aniobi in the 100, Em. Aniobi in the 400, Pilla in the 1600, Klatt in the discus, Joseph in the long jump, Pew in the 100 and Fontus in the 300-meter hurdles and triple jump.

The Eastern C divisional track meet is scheduled in Lambert on May 18.
