Event Promotes Breast Cancer Awareness
Pink Night
Wolf Point community members came together to support “pink night” during the high school volleyball squad’s match against Glasgow on Thursday, Oct. 22. The annual night promoted breast cancer awareness and raised funds for the Northeast Montana Health Service’s radiology department.
Halie Holen, a parent of a volleyball player, was one of the organizers of the fundraiser.
“It’s run by all the parents and coaches of the volleyball girls,” Holen said. This was her third year involved with the event.
The night’s fundraiser included about 30 baskets.
“We have a lot,” Holen said of the baskets. “It’s been a great turnout.”
Holen explained the baskets were donated by parents, teachers and local businesses. Some businesses also donated financially for the cause.
One basket that attracted many bidders was donated by Traci Harada. The item included a stadium chair, water bottle and blanket.
On the court, both teams wore pink uniforms to help promote breast cancer awareness.
“It’s a great night,” Wolf Point Coach Jaki Harada said. “Everybody is dressed up in pink and it’s for breast cancer awareness.”
The coach said the players really looked forward to the night.
Holen estimated that between $2,000 and $2,500 is raised each year during “pink night.”
