Wolf Point Beats Cut Bank In Semi-Final Round

A 31-point third quarter lifted Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball squad to a 63-48 semi-final round victory over Cut Bank at the Northern B divisional tournament in Shelby on Friday, March 3.

Wolf Point fell behind by a 27-26 margin early in the third quarter, but responded with a drive by Lennox Lilley and a steal and basket by Juliun Benson to move back ahead.

After Cut Bank scored at the 5:58 mark, two free throws by Benson and a short jumper by Lilley were good for a five-point advantage.

Ahead by only a 34-33 margin, Wolf Point then stepped up to take control of the contest. A basket off a rebound by Benson put the lead at 3633. After Gaige Bushman took a charge, Benson scored for a 38-33 margin.

After another charge taken by Bushman, the senior hit a 15-footer for a 40-33 Wolf Point advantage.

Cut Bank’s Jaydas Runningwolf connected on a three-pointer, but a steal and layup by Benson along with a three-pointer by Bushman put the score at 45-36.

After a steal by Peyton Summers, Kelby Bauer hit a three-pointer. Bauer then scored after a steal by Bushman for a 50-36 lead.

Benson connected on a 15-footer and three-pointer for a 55-38 lead. A hoop by Bushman was good for a 5738 margin at the end of the third quarter.

Cut Bank struck for eight straight points in the fourth period to cut the gap to 5948, but two quick hoops by Bushman kept Wolf Point in charge.

Benson led Wolf Point’s attack with 28 points. Bushman added 14 and Bauer had 11 points.

Also scoring were Silk with six and Lilley with four points.

Top scorers for Cut Bank were Runningwolf with 18 and Jackson Black with 10 points.

Cut Bank jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter, but Wolf Point held a 26-25 half-time advantage.
