Bulldogs Fight Off Fusion

Bainville fought off Richey/ Lambert, 61-59, to open its boys’ basketball season with a victory on Friday, Dec. 2.

Bainville Coach Shawn Romo said he liked his team’s defensive intensity throughout the away contest.

“Overall, I was also pleased with our movement,” Romo said.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter as Chuck Butikofer scored seven points. Bainville increased its advantage to 34-15 in the second period. Ayden Knudsen scored seven and Alex Strickland added six points in the quarter.

The Fusion battled back to 38-34 in the third quarter.

Bainville accounted for 23 points in the fourth period including 10 by C. Butikofer. The Fusion missed their final shot attempt in the exciting game.

Top scorers for the Bulldogs were C. Butikofer with 21, Knudsen with 18 and Strickland with 10 points.

Rounding out the scoring were Sam Butikofer with five, Reese Harmon with four, Reid Anderson with two and Cayden Boyd with one.

Joshua Sponheim led the Fusion with 17 points. Austin Lien scored 12 points. Layne Herman and Ryan Eggert added 11 points each.
