Cowgirls Take Match Against Bainville
The Culbertson Cowgirls fought off Bainville in a fourset volleyball match held in Bainville on Monday, Oct. 17.
After the squads split the match’s first two sets, the Cowgirls took a 7-3 lead in the third set on a kill by Makena Hauge and an ace by Perla Burciaga. Kills and an ace by Hauge increased Culbertson’s lead to 12-8.
After a spike by Bainville’s Elsie Wilson was good for a point, the Cowgirls moved ahead 16-10 on a back-row kill by Hauge and a serve by Leandra Perkins. The Bulldogs battled back with six straight points including a kill by Hailey Berwick and three aces by Wilson for a 16-16 deadlock. After a spike by Culbertson’s Burciaga, Bainville’s Brecklyn Pippenger scored a kill for a 17-17 game. Another kill by B. Pippenger led Bainville to a 20-17 lead.
With the score even at 21-21, Culbertson took a 2421 advantage on two serves by Alicyn Ator and a kill by Hauge. The Bulldogs cut the gap to 24-22 on a kill by Miah Pippenger, but Culbertson ended the set on a kill by Hauge.
Aces by B. Pippenger, a kill by M. Pippenger and a kill by Lila Butikofer put Bainville up 11-6 in the fourth set. The Cowgirls fought back to 13-13 on kills by Burciaga and an ace by Destiny Thompson.
The Bulldogs regained the lead at 18-16 on two hard serves by Berwick. Down by a 19-17 score, Culbertson struck for eight straight points on three aces by Jazzmin Fugere and two kills by Thompson.
Bainville battled back to 2423 on kills by M. Pippenger, but the Cowgirls earned the final point on a kill by Burciaga.
Hauge finished with 17 kills, five aces, three blocks and eight digs. Burciaga scored five kills, one ace, two blocks and seven digs.
Thompson accounted for five kills, four aces and six digs. Perkins had two digs.
Alicyn Ator had 21 assists, two aces and a dig. Ayden Ator had a kill and five digs.
Fugere finished with four aces, two kills and 10 digs.
Bainville’s M. Pippenger accounted for 10 kills and six digs. Berwick scored eight kills, seven aces, six digs and a block. Butikofer finished with four kills and 18 assists. Wilson had six kills, four aces and two blocks.
B. Pippenger had nine kills, six digs and two blocks. Kendra Romo finished with three kills, 15 assists, 11 digs and a block.
