Fire Contained Near Sugar Top Hill On Saturday

A 30-acre fire was put out east/northeast of Sugar Top Hill near Culbertson Saturday, Aug. 13. The alarm was raised around 3 p.m. with the Roosevelt County Fair wrapping up nearby.

The Culbertson Volunteer Fire Department responded with assistance from Bainville and Froid fire departments. No structures were burned in the fire.

Froid Fire Chief Cam Fiede told the Community News that a Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office deputy helped direct department members to the scene and provided ongoing assistance.

Friede and county Fire Warden Mike Olson both said the season has been a fortunate one, with below normal fire activity, but they warned danger is heightened with extra machinery at work and conditions continuing to be hot and dry. Olson said landowners should pay special attention to defensible space barriers with added fuel loading from the wet spring and summer continuing to dry out in the hot weather.
