Red Hawks Fight Off Shields Valley, 36-14

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks ended the non-conference portion of their football schedule with a 36-14 win at Shields Valley Saturday, Sept. 18.

“Shields Valley executed really well with what they wanted to do,” Froid/Lake Coach Michael Reiter said. “It just came down to mistakes.”

The Red Hawks led 22-0 at the half and 28-6 after three quarters of play.

Scoring touchdowns for Froid/Lake were Javonne Nesbit on a 20-yard pass from Mason Dethman, Brett Stentoft on a three-yard dive, Connor Huft on a five-yard pass play, Ashdyn Hobbs on a run and Dethman on a rushing attack.

“Defensively, we played all right,” Reiter said.

Linebackers B. Stentoft and Ashdyn Hobbs led the way defensively.

Nesbit had an interception and B. Stentoft made a fumble recovery.

“I’m pretty confident how we played,” Reiter said of the team’s 4-0 start in the non-conference games. “The biggest thing was getting used to traveling.”

Reiter sees White Sulphur Springs, Hot Springs, Broadview/ Lavina, Bridger and Shields Valley as some of the top teams from other parts of the state.

The coach says the Red Hawks aren’t over confident after their impressive start to the season.

“There are things to do to get better,” Reiter said.

The Red Hawks will play at Wibaux starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25.
