Culbertson Food Bank Closes
The volunteers at the Culbertson Food Bank have decided to close the local food bank.
The Culbertson Food Bank has provided food for needy families for nearly 50 years. LeEtta Waldhausen has worked there for about 35 years herself and said she is very sad to see the closure.
Most of the time, it has been supported by local and area churches and schools with supplemental funds from anonymous donors. The Montana Food Bank out of Missoula delivered commodities and food about every six weeks throughout the past years.
The food bank has provided for approximately 150 families a month. Family size ranges from two to eight people who, many times, have little to no income or are homeless. The oil boom attracted many people that had spent all of their savings to get here and arrived at high cost food and housing.
The volunteers stated that they feel that they have been insulted by local politics insinuating that funds have been wasted and had “unexplained income.” “What does ‘anonymous donors’ mean?” asked the volunteers.
The volunteers stated they would love to have an apology, but know that won’t happen.
The Culbertson Food Bank expressed appreciation to all the volunteers and donors that have supported this program and want them to know that they have worked hard to “Feed God’s People.”
