Strommen Released On New Conditions

Former Valley County Undersheriff Luke Strommen was released from the Roosevelt County Detention Center Monday, Nov. 18.

A Nov. 15 hearing instituted new conditions for his release. Judge John Larson of Missoula revoked Strommen Oct. 22 after community members expressed concerns about conditions violations.

He is currently awaiting a sentencing hearing in January following his guilty plea for a single charge of sexual abuse of a child. The plea agreement includes a 10-year suspended sentence.

Strommen is also facing a charge of sexual intercourse without consent (rape). A trial date for that charge has been set for March 9, 2020, in Glasgow. If convicted, Strommen could be punished with a sentence of five to 100 years in prison.

New release conditions state that Strommen may not have any contact with individuals under the age of 18 or frequent places where children congregate unless accompanied by an appropriately trained, responsible adult who is aware of Strommen’s sexual conviction. He will have a curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day of the week and he will have GPS monitoring, including an ankle bracelet. If law enforcement in Glasgow or Valley County cannot locate the defendant at any time, an arrest warrant will be issued immediately.
