Hoop Shoot Sunday At Wolf Point High School For Ages 8-13

The local Elks Hoop Shoot youth free throw contest will be held in the Wolf Point High School gym Sunday, Nov. 24, with registration from 1 to 2 p.m. Competition begins at 2 p.m.

The local contest, which is part of Elks National Hoop Shoot, is for boys and girls ages 8-13. There are six divisions by age and gender for ages 8/9, 10/11 and 12/13. Contestants are assigned an age group based on the age that he or she will be on April 1, 2020.

Wolf Point Elks Lodge No. 1764 no longer encourages schools to hold trials for Hoop Shoot. The annual free throw contests are open to all boys and girls by age and gender.

Six local winners by age groups and gender advance to the regional competition in January. The location will be announced. From there, the top finishers go to the Montana state contest in Livingston in February 2020. The Hoop Shoot National Finals will take place in Chicago, Ill., in April 2020.

Since 2002, several national winners have come from small communities in Montana including Plentywood, Anaconda, Big Timber and Livingston.

Elks Hoop Shoot had its origin in Corvallis Ore., in 1946. The Elks have sponsored national competition since 1972.

Hoop Shoot is free to all participants and provides youth an opportunity to compete, connect and succeed.
