County Hits 51 Percent For Vaccination Rate

Roosevelt County had nine active COVID cases as of Monday, March 14. There have been 71 COVID-related deaths in the county. There are no current hospitalizations. County health officials encourage all residents aged 5 and up to be vaccinated and those over 16 should consider getting booster doses. Immunizations are by appointment only. Frances Nation

Frances Nation, 79, of Poplar died Feb. 28, 2022. She was born to Ramona Diserly and Louis Youpee of Poplar on July 3, 1942. She went to school in Twin Bridges; Pierre, S.D.; and Flandreau, S.D. She is survived by her daughter, Ramona; son, Lloyd Iceman of Great Falls; brother, Thomas Brown of Poplar; sisters, Jolene Jeffries of Billings, Mimi of Minneapolis and Cari of Seattle; and numerous grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Robin and Francine Iceman; and brothers, Darell and Louie Youpee. Viewing will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Poplar. Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at Poplar City Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Poplar’s two-time state wrestling champion Jazmin Gorder has signed to compete with Minot State University’s wrestling program. Gorder said she knew she was going to attend Minot State after a visit to the school late in 2021. “I had my mind made up. I just didn’t tell anybody,” the senior laughed. Minot is entering its first season of having a women’s wrestling program.
