Janet Christoffersen, who was removed by the Roosevelt County Commissioners from the position of county attorney at the end of June, has filed a complaint against the county. Christoffersen is seeking a declaration from the court that she remains the Roosevelt County Attorney because commissioners don’t have the authority to remove her from office. Roosevelt County has received its first check from local option excise taxes for both medical and non-medical marijuana. The check is for $7,769.35. Roosevelt County Treasurer Betty Romo says the checks should come quarterly, but the amount will change based on sales. The Culbertson School District will celebrate its new playground with a grand opening at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16. The event will take place after an open house of classrooms from 3-4 p.m. School officials hope to take a photograph with everybody attending the playground celebration.
