Crystal BigHorn, 77, of Brockton died Oct. 5, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings. She was born in Poplar on Feb. 5, 1948, to Florence Mae Weinberger “Bighorn“ and Ernest Clark Bighorn Sr. Shel was third born amongst siblings: Ernie, Jackie, Sybil, Alda and James Bighorn. Her Indian name was Bear Woman, “Mató Wíŋyaŋ,” given to her by her grandfather Maurice Bighorn. She attended school in Brockton and also got her associate degree. She looked out for the less fortunate and had a genuine soul. She was determined to accomplish her goals. She was an outdoorswoman and loved hunting, fishing and music. She was an honest person and was “tough as nails,” but gentle at her core. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, gardening and canning, all whilst always sending a prayer. She enjoyed going to her “ranch“ to do daily chores, feeding and graining horses, watering and feeding her ducks and chickens, cats and dogs. Her house was the spot for pretty much everything, from family gatherings to holidays to Cat Creek jam sessions. She had a special way of creating a space that unified and nourished all of her family. She loved gardening and her “greenhouse” that her grandson Justin built for her. She was an avid Denver Broncos fan. She kept track of everyone’s birthdays and special events, merging her calendar with everyone else’s lives to ensure she could support with her best efforts.
