Bainville’s girls’ basketball squad entered its non-conference game at Lustre on a roll. The Bulldogs kept their streak going with a hardfought win over the Lions, 45-40, on Saturday, Jan. 27. The victory avenged Bainville’s lone defeat of the season. It was quite a test for the Bulldogs as they led by only a 33-31 margin against the solid Lustre team entering the third quarter.

Poplar’s girls’ basketball team overcame a strong start by Wolf Point to win by a 4727 final in league play on Saturday, Jan. 20. A basket by Azalei Ackerman and five points by Kylie Rodenberg put the Wolves ahead 7-3 during the game’s first three minutes of play. After Poplar’s Kessee Erickson scored off a rebound, Wolf Point’s Juellz Bauer canned a three-pointer for a 10-5 margin.

In an action packed contest in front of dedicated fans, Poplar emerged with a 61-53 win over Wolf Point in boys’ basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 20. The visiting Indians gained a 33-29 half-time lead. Poplar was able to extend the margin to 44-38 on a turnaround shot by Kaniel Ricker and an inside shot by Walker Burshia late in the third quarter. Malta’s boys’ basketball squad put together an impressive effort to defeat Poplar, 71-38, in District 2B action on Friday, Jan. 19. Malta led by only an 11-7 margin at the end of the first quarter, and a three-pointer by Poplar’s Delray Lilley pulled the Indians to 11-10 at the start of the second period. Kaniel Ricker connected on a three-pointer for a 13-13 deadlock with 7:05 left

In a contest involving two District 2B contenders, Malta edged Poplar by a 51-42 final in girls’ basketball action on Friday, Jan. 19. The Indians trailed by a 28-20 half-time margin. A three-pointer by Cammie Martell kept the Indians close at 31-23 early in the third quarter. Malta then ran off 10 straight points, including three-pointers by Kendall Clausen and Kelbie Nelson, to grab a 41-23

The Wolf Point Wolves wrestled in Moorcroft, Wyo., during the weekend. Wolf Point Coach Scott Vandall said Camden Doorneck and Tavian Bell wrestled well in the JV portion of the tournament. Bell placed third. “He lost his first match and battled back hard,” Vandall said. Mike Bell and Jesse Reed wrestled in the varsity portion of the tournament. Reed lost a heartbreaker in the blood
