Poplar’s girls’ basketball team marched into the district championship game by downing Wolf Point by a 5236 final on Thursday, Feb. 15.

The Indians outscored Wolf Point in each quarter including by a 10-7 margin in the first quarter. Mattie Falls Down scored five points in the opening period for Poplar.

Poplar increased its lead to 23-15 in the second quarter. Cammie Martell led Poplar’s attack with six points in the period. Keeley Blount-Henderson kept the Wolves close with four points in the quarter.

C. Martell hit two three-pointers and Kessee Erickson added six points as the Indians gained a 38-29 advantage in the third quarter. Wolf Point’s Kashlyn Speak Thunder and Blount-Henderson hit three-pointers in the period.

Free throws by Erickson, Rikki Belton, Braelyn Nordwick, Falls Down and C. Martell helped the Indians put the game away in the fourth quarter.

C. Martell finished with 15 points to lead the Indians. Falls Down added eight points.

Also scoring were Nordwick with six, Erickson with six, Bailey Dupree with four, Belton with three and EmmaRae Martell with one.

Blount-Henderson scored 12 points for the Wolves.

Rounding out the scoring were Juellz Bauer with seven, Speak Thunder with seven, Azalei Ackerman with four, Jorilynn Black Eagle with three, Ameliya Doney with two and Kylie Rodenberg with one point.
