Gemma Crowley-Smith, 83, died July 20, 2023, at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point. She was born Dec. 8, 1939, in Richland Center, Wis. She was the middle child and only daughter of Imelda Lucille Doyle and Joseph Keeley Crowley. She joined older brother, Tom, and young brother Donald Joe “DJ” was later born. She grew up in Manitowoc, Wis., attending elementary school at St. Paul Catholic School. She attended St. Mary’s Springs Academy in Fon Du Lac, Wis., her freshman and sophomore years and attended her junior and senior years at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, graduating in 1958. After graduating high school, she attended Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minn. After graduating with a laboratory and X-ray technician degree in December 1959, she took a job in Milwaukee, Wis., as a medical laboratory technician. She received a call in the summer of 1961 from her college classmate, Barbara Smith, to see if she could come out to Wolf Point and fill in at Trinity Hospital while Barbara was going on maternity leave. Ready for a change, she came to call Montana her home for the past 62 years. On June 6, 1964, she married Ronnie Smith at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She took a job with the Indian Health Service as a medical laboratory and X-ray technician in Poplar. They had three sons, Craig Roy, Douglas William and Daniel Joseph. She loved her job at the IHS Clinic in Poplar. Unfortunately, she was forced to retire in October 1981 due to being allergic to something in the laboratory that couldn’t be identified. Cailee Skye Bird Hat, “Eagle Plume Dancing in the Clouds”, 20, of Frazer died July 12, 2023. She was born Nov. 26, 2002, to Michelle Clancy and Curtis Bird Hat in Glasgow. She was born on her brother Christian’s first birthday, so he called her his first birthday present. She and her siblings lived and made their home in Wolf Point with their parents until their separation in 2004. She and Christian moved to Frazer with their grandmother, Carmen. She attended school in Frazer. While in school, she joined basketball and football. She enjoyed the many trips across the state to play the sports she loved. When she and her siblings were younger, they traveled the powwow trail on their grandma Carmen’s concession stand. In the early morning hours of July 21, 2023, our family rock, Jean “Jeannie” Archdale passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home. Jeannie was born on Sept. 21, 1959, in Wolf Point, Mont., to Gale “Pete” Peterson and Beulah Peterson (Roy). She was a loyal, loving and caring person, full of grit and determination. Jeannie started at a very young age being everybody’s rock — first, with her older sister, Terry, and then with her younger sister, Brenda. Jeannie and Terry enjoyed playing outside for hours at a time. They also spent time sledding, playing with dolls and having tea parties. When her younger sister, Brenda, was born, Jeannie took her on as her own baby and loved to push her around in the stroller, specifically, to the big rock for picnics. Jeannie also liked to build forts with her friends, Tana and Janell, and go on picnics with her mom and pick wildflowers. It was no secret that Jeannie was not an avid participant in school. There were many times during elementary school that Jean would take it upon herself to leave school and walk home, knowing full well that her Grandpa Percy would spot her walking up the gravel road and go pick her up to give her a ride home. On April 9, 1976, Jeannie married Gerald Archdale. They had just celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary. Together, they had three daughters, Angela Marie, Tera Lynn and Carrie Sue. When it came to her kids and grandkids, Jeannie was loyal and fierce. She was bound and determined that her children would have the chance to participate in any activities of their choosing, even if it meant that she had to give something up for herself. Jeannie was extremely proud of her children’s accomplishments, especially when they received their college degrees. She loved watching her grandchildren’s activities and listening to their many adventures. She enjoyed attending their football, soccer and baseball games, birthday parties and Parker’s school plays. When Jeannie’s oldest sister shared highlights of Preston’s last baseball game, Jeannie opened her eyes and shared a loving smile. Although Brenly and Carly were still young and just getting involved in activities, Jeannie loved to watch whatever Brenly and Carly were involved in. Jeannie worked at several places during her time of employment and made many friendships at each place. Some of those friendships continued up until the time of her passing, two of which are Tina and Krit. Places she worked include The Sweet Shop, Gillette Pharmacy, Wood’s Powr-Grip, Trinity Hospital and Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office. Jeannie had many things she enjoyed. Saxxon Alexander Red Boy, 32, of Poplar died June 15, 2023. He was born to Jewel Merculieff and Dennis Red Boy Sr. on Feb. 11, 1991, in Bismarck, N.D. He loved to tease, even though he couldn’t take a joke. He was always full of laughter and enjoyed hanging out with family drinking, jamming and laughing. He enjoyed playing dice and watching TV. He was always there if someone needed to talk or needed help, but he was rarely found walking around. He was always at home.
