Poplar’s boys’ basketball season came to an end when the Indians lost to Harlem, 72-55, in loser-out play at the District 2B tournament in Sidney on Friday, Feb. 26. The Indians fell behind 20-9 in the first quarter. Joe Bear scored five of Poplar’s points in the opening period. Harlem led by as many as 20 points in the second quarter, but Poplar battled back for a 35-25 half-time score.

Poplar’s girls’ basketball squad fell short against Harlem, 58-49, in first-round action of the District 2B girls’ basketball tournament in Poplar on Thursday, Feb. 25. Fifteen gymnasts from Eastern Montana Gymnastics competed in the Yellowstone Invitational Meet in Billings on Feb. 28. Wolf Point’s boys’ basketball team was up to the challenge when the Wolves faced top-seeded Malta at the District 2B tournament on Friday, Feb. 26. By James Walling The 13th Poplar Ice Fishing Contest is planing to move ahead Saturday, March 13. The contest was originally planned for Feb. 6. Organizer Doug Marottek told the Northern Plains Independent that the final word on the event will depend on conditions. “I will know more on ice conditions after this weekend,” he said. “It looks like we get a little cool down next week.”
