Poplar’s wrestlers enjoyed a good amount of success during the CMR Holiday Classic held in Great Falls during the weekend. In the girls’ tournament, Poplar’s Angelina Escarcega captured top honors at 103 pounds. The freshman pinned Lewistown’s Rebecca Birdwell in 4:26 in the championship match. Escarcega earned a sudden victory over Glacier’s Brooke Yeadon in the semi-final round.

The Poplar Indians fell short in both of their conference basketball games in Harlem on Saturday, Dec. 18. Harlem’s boys edged the Indians by a 71-64 margin. Poplar trailed by only a 1612 margin after the opening quarter and 37-32 score at the half. The Indians closed the gap to 53-51 during the third quarter. Whit Rush of Wolf Point was selected the Angler of the Year for the Fort Peck walleye tournament series in 2021. The award was presented at the Walleyes Unlimited state banquet in Lewistown in February. Kris Keller of Wolf Point placed second for Angler of the Year and Glasgow’s Stuart Law took third. The Frazer Bearcubs dropped conference basketball contests in Scobey on Thursday, Dec. 16. Frazer’s girls fell by a 4611 final. Scobey led by a 20-9 half-time margin. Bailey Beston scored three points for the Bearcubs. Adding two points each were Isabelle Even, Evelyn Yellow Hammer, Audrey Smoker and Angeline White. The Fish and Wildlife Commission approved 2022/2023 hunting regulations proposals for public comment at its meeting Tuesday, Dec. 14. The draft proposals are being compiled and will be available online at fwp. mt.gov/regproposals as soon as possible.
