The Roosevelt County Commissioners approved continuing with their contract with the Healthy is Wellness program during their meeting on Tuesday, July 8. Being part of the program is voluntarily for employees. The county and its health provider each pay half of the fees for the program. The Fort Peck Tribes’ Tribal Executive Board approved two resolutions regarding services provided by Indian Health Services during its meeting on Monday. A Poplar man who fraudulently obtained money intended for the local fire department was sentenced on July 9, to five months in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and restitution of $16,986.50, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said. David Michael Rosebud Mathison, 49, pleaded guilty in March 2025 to one count of wire fraud. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided.

A 52-year-old Poplar male died in a vehicle/pedestrian accident on U.S. Highway 2, mile marker 592, at about 9:53 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.
