Commissioners Approve Contract Extensions

The Roosevelt County Commissioners approved continuing with their contract with the Healthy is Wellness program during their meeting on Tuesday, July 8.

Being part of the program is voluntarily for employees. The county and its health provider each pay half of the fees for the program.

Cost for the county is about $1,100 a month.

“It’s pretty successful,” Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said of Healthy is Wellness.

Commissioners reported that about 60 county employees are taking part in the program.

Commissioner Robert Toavs added some testing can lead to individuals being instructed into making positive lifestyle changes.

“It’s been a real good program,” Toavs said.

Also during the meeting, commissioners agreed to the county’s weed management plan.

“There’s nothing in it,” Oelkers explained. “Nothing’s different than the previous few years.”

Commissioners reminded the public that private landowners can contract with the county for noxious weed treatment. As far as public areas, the county handles just roads and ditches.

During the public comment section of the meeting, resident Bill Juve commended the county for its clean-up efforts from the Sherman Inn down to Rodeo Road.

Commissioners approved $15,721 to purchase two mobile phones for new sheriff office vehicles. A bid of $51,590 from Two Diggers was approved for a culvert change north of McCabe on County Road 1019.

Also approved was the purchase of eight computers for the sheriff’s office and county jail. Cost of the purchase is $10,096 from the Montana Association of Counties.
