Roosevelt County commissioners discussed the impacts of adding time clocks for courthouse employees during a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 6. Commissioner Robert Toavs explained that employees have been writing their time worked down and having their department heads signed off on the hours. Commissioners then must approve the hours. After sitting in 48th place in October, Roosevelt County has improved to 44th place in November when the latest information was released last week. Roosevelt is tied with Lake and Powell counties with an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent. The two counties in Montana with the lowest unemployment are Carter and Powder River at 2 percent each. A hearing on Abrianne Lillian Deserly’s motion to dismiss her case has been scheduled for Feb. 18 in U.S. District Court in Great Falls. The motion seeks to dismiss the charge of one count of second degree murder. Trial for the case was scheduled for Jan. 6, but has been continued until after the motion to dismiss hearing. The indictment alleges that on Feb. 26, 2025, near Wolf Point,

Channing Eder of Wolf Point is facing two charges in U.S. District Court for the District of Montana in Great Falls. Charges are possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. If convicted, the mandatory minimum sentence is 15 years to life imprisonment, a $20,000 fine and at least 10 years of supervised release. The second count is being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

This year, the Roosevelt County DUI Task Force is offering a scholarship of $500 to any high school senior graduating in 2026 from a school within the boundaries of Roosevelt County. The focus of this year’s scholarship is to write an essay on how the student chooses to live above the influence of alcohol use, drug use, peer pressure, bullying, or any other negative influences around them.
