Bulldogs Score Victory In Savage
The Bainville Bulldogs and Savage Warriors battled through a scoreless first quarter. Savage struck first in the second, but a fourth-and-long gamble soon put Bainville on the scoreboard and set the Bulldogs in motion.
Bainville lined up to punt, but Parker Berwick threw to Kyn Beery instead. Beery took the ball about 60 yards for a touchdown, answering Savage’s opening score and tying the game at 6.
It was the first of several ways Beery would help the Bulldogs put points on the board. He recovered Bainville’s onside kick after the touchdown, giving his team another possession before halftime. Quarterback Evan Anderson capitalized with a touchdown pass to Berwick. Holden Salivar made the conversion kick, and Bainville went into the break ahead 14-6.
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into the second half. Salivar returned the kicko for a touchdown to make it 20-6. Beery then scored on a run, extending Bainville’s lead to 26-6 with 7:42 remaining in the third quarter.
Anderson went back to the air for the next score, connecting with Keagan Vaira for a touchdown. Salivar added another conversion kick, putting the Bulldogs ahead 34-6.
Bainville’s defense soon joined the scoring. Berwick forced a fumble, and Beery recovered it and ran it back for a touchdown. Beery later broke free for another run of about 60 yards, scoring his second rushing touchdown of the night. Anderson completed a conversion pass to Berwick, making it 47-6 with 6:49 left in the fourth quarter.
Even the final seconds brought one more Bulldogs highlight. Berwick intercepted a pass near the goal line and returned it about 80 yards for a touchdown as the clock expired, sealing Bainville’s 53-6 victory.
Beery’s four touchdowns came in three phases of the game: two on oense, one on the fake-punt reception and one on the fumble return. He led Bainville’s rushing attack with 98 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns. His lone reception went for 61 yards and a score.
Berwick’s night was just as varied. Along with throwing the touchdown pass on the fake punt, he caught two passes for 32 yards and a touchdown, forced the fumble that Beery returned and scored on the final interception return.
Vaira caught two passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Anderson completed 4 of 8 passes for 115 yards, while Berwick completed his only pass attempt for 61 yards. Bainville finished with 127 yards rushing and 176 yards passing.
The Bulldogs will host Jordan on Saturday, Oct. 3.
