Lady Wolves Fall To Harlem
Despite playing well at times, Wolf Point’s volleyball team dropped its home opener against Harlem on Saturday, Sept. 5. Harlem won by a 25-16, 2519, 25-19 final.
The Wolves fell behind by a 12-3 margin in the first set before a kill by Anna Matejovsky highlighted Wolf Point’s play.
With the Wildcats ahead by a 23-14 score, the Wolves struck for the next two points on a serve by Matejovsky and a kill by Addy Smith. Harlem then took the game by a 25-16 final.
The Wolves played much better in the second set as a tip by Mattie Azure, an ace by Smith, a kill by Matejovsky, an ace by Azure and a kill by Butterfl y Lindsay produced a 6-1 start.
The net play of Lindsay along with the serving of McKenzie Rodenberg and Azure led the way to a 13-4 advantage.
After a spike by Harper Weeks was good for a 14-5 lead, the Wolves increased the gap to 17-6 on a kill and ace by Smith.
Harlem, however, battled back for an 18-18 deadlock.
With the score at 19-18, the Wildcats tallied the last six points including two on kills by Ali Doyle.
In the third set, a spike and ace by Lindsay kept the Wolves close at 9-7. The net play of Smith and Matejovsky along with an ace by McKinlee Paulson produced a 12-12 tie.
After falling behind 1814, the Wolves struck for the next two points on a spike by Ma’Kenzie Jackson and a hit by Paulson. Wolf Point pulled to 19-18 on a spike by Rodenberg, but Harlem accounted for the last six points including two on blocks by Marlee Brown.
Wolf Point’s JVs won by a 25-12, 25-21, 15-11, final.
The Wolves will host Poplar on Thursday, Sept. 10, and Malta on Saturday, Sept. 12.
