Cowgirls Suffer Loss Against Thunder

Culbertson’s girls’ basketball team fell behind early and lost to MonDak, 60-31, in loser-out play at the District 2C tournament in Sidney on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The Thunder gained a 9-2 lead and held an 11-3 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

After Molly Wright connected on a three-pointer to put MonDak up 17-5 midway into the second period, the Cowgirls ended the half with nine of the last 11 points for a 19-14 score at intermission. Emma Berwick scored four of the points during the streak.

A pair of three-pointers by Addie Lundby led MonDak to a 25-16 lead early in the third quarter.

After the hot shooting of Ayden Ator brought the Cowgirls back to 27-22, the Thunder struck for 10 straight points. Abby Lowes dominated the inside with eight of the points.

Two more baskets by Lowes resulted in a 46-26 margin at the end of the third quarter.

The Thunder then accounted for the first eight points of the final period.

Culbertson’s top scorers were Berwick with 12 and Ator with 11 points.

Also scoring were Kalia Featherston with six, Bella Petersen with two and Leandra Perkins with two.

Lowes finished with 30 points for the Thunder. Lundby added eight points.
