Trustees Receive Update On Staff Housing Options
Wolf Point Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Perkins reported that progress is being made by the school district in purchasing a house across from Southside Elementary School for staff housing.
Perkins said that the process of finalizing the deal is taking place.
Trustees approved paying $175,000 for the house located at 500 Dawson St. during their meeting in May.
The school district will charge teachers rent to sustain the building.
Perkins said interest in one other property is no longer there by the school district.
There are two other properties that school officials are considering to purchase for staff housing.
During public comment, Jen Moran Loucks expressed concerns about the school district’s policies for cell phones, drugs, alcohol and tobacco. She said the rules aren’t enforced for all students. She claimed she heard reports that one teacher chewed tobacco with three students.
Loucks also said that she was worried about her child’s safety because of social media attacks.
Board chair Roxanne Gourneau said reports of social media attacks should be provided to the school district’s superintendent. “If there are concerns, we want to hear it,” Gourneau said.
Perkins explained that when he receives a complaint, he takes the matter to the teacher and the school building principal first.
Trustees approved $54,080 for a camera system upgrade at Southside Elementary School.
Contract renewals were approved for business manager Demi Wilkinson and district technology administrator Cole Hanks. Grant Legare was approved as the Title IX representative.
