Wolf Point Girls Drop Home Match Against Harlem Squad


Wolf Point’s volleyball team took the first set, but the Wolves couldn’t keep the momentum going during home action against Harlem on Saturday, Oct. 11.
Harlem came away with a 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23, District 2B victory.
With the first set deadlocked at 11-11, the Wolves struck for the next five points including an ace by Adalynn Smith, a tip by Annaleigh Matejovsky and a kill by McKinlee Paulson to grab a 16-11 lead. The Wildcats responded on the net play of Kashlyn Speak Thunder and Marlee Brown to earn a 19-18 lead.
An ace by Holly Grabofsky put the Wildcats up 2322, but a tip by Wolf Point’s Lauren Rodenberg pulled the Wolves even. After a spike by Harlem’s Brown, the Wolves accounted for the final three points of the set including a hit by Cali Gorder and a kill by Annaleigh Matejovsky.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the second set before the Wolves got going on two kills by Rodenberg, an ace by Marley Moran and a tip by Paulson. Wolf Point came as close as 15-12, but Harlem moved out to a 20-14 advantage. A spike by Smith and a kill by Ma’Kenzie Jackson cut the margin to 20-16.
After Speak Thunder accounted for a block, the Wolves tallied three straight points on a back-row kill by Matejovsky and two aces by Moran to close the gap to 2320. A kill by Abby Grabofsky helped put the set away for Harlem.
Harlem took a 20-13 lead in the third set, but the Wolves battled back to 22-18.
Rodenberg smashed a kill to put the margin at 23-20, but Harlem held on for the 25-20 win.
In the fourth set, blocks by Smith and an ace by Moran kept the Wolves close at 109. A kill by Rodenberg helped Wolf Point earn a 13-10 advantage.
Harlem then tallied the next seven points to move ahead. After a spike by Ali Doyle gave Harlem a 20-18 advantage, the Wolves regained the lead on a kill by Matejovsky and two aces by Paulson.
A block by Jackson cut Harlem’s lead to 23-22, but the Wildcats finished the match at 25-23 on a kill by Brown.
Earlier in the week, Wolf Point dropped two away matches. The Wolves lost at Fairview, 12-25, 3-25, 13-25, and at North Country, 13-25, 20-25, 14-25.
The Wolves will host Poplar for senior night on Thursday, Oct. 16.
