One man was killed and another injured in a shooting that occurred on Blaine Street in Wolf Point at the Albertsons store’s parking lot.

According to the Wolf Point Police Department, an officer responded to a reported shooting at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28.

Upon arrival, the police officer found one deceased individual and another person with a gunshot wound. The police officer provided immediate medical assistance to the injured person until emergency medical assistance arrived. The injured person was taken to Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point and later flown to Billings for additional care.

Ethan Murphy, the suspect in the case, was successfully detained just before presstime Tuesday. According to the Fort Peck Tribes Law Enforcement Facebook post, “The Fort Peck Tribes Law Enforcement would like to inform the community that Tribal Officers detained Ethan Louis Murphy without incident. The situation was handled swiftly and safely, and there were no injuries or issues during the process. “We thank the community for their cooperation and support, and we commend all officers involved for their professionalism and dedication to maintaining peace and safety throughout Fort Peck.

“Thanks to all Agencies involved: Wolf Point Police Department, Roosevelt County Sheriffs Office, Wolf Point Fire Department, NEMHS, Border Patrol and Montana Highway Patrol.”

Residents were urged to shelter in place on Sunday for safety reasons. The shelter in place was lifted Monday morning. Neither Wolf Point or Frontier School held classes on Monday due to safety concerns. They were back in session on Tuesday. Poplar Schools were in session, but the buildings and grounds were in a secured state. There was limited access to buildings.
