WPCO Approves Budget For New Year
The Wolf Point Community Organization approved its annual budget during its meeting held on Monday, April 21. The budget has been increased to $163,000 for the 2025-2026 year. Treasurer Jason Hamilton explained that about $80,000 is “carry over” funds from the last two years. WPCO will then request $80,000 from Silver Wolf Casino for the remaining amount.
The reason provided for the increase is that WPCO leads a pow-wow event during Wolf Point Wild Horse Stampede weekend. Wayne Two Bulls, serving as the head of the pow-wow committee, said the powwow will expand to two nights, which will be the Friday and Saturday of Stampede. He hopes children’s activities, including horse riding, will be available again on Thursday. Two Bulls said a fundraiser drawing for the opportunity to harvest a buffalo will be conducted to help raise funds for the pow-wow.
WPCO members approved $2,500 for the Wolf Point Head Start program to purchase equipment along with gifts for students.
A petition concerning a request to expand the Fort Peck Housing Authority was tabled until the May meeting. The amendment is to include the Frontier community representation with an additional commissioner on the Fort Peck Housing Authority.
The petition reads, “The commissioner would be an addition to Wolf Point Community Organization, which would give equal representation with five commissioners for the west end and five commissioners for the east end.”
