Good Turnout Of Actors

The Missoula Children’s Theatre went off very well in Wolf Point last week, according to one of the traveling directors.

“Everything’s been going great,” Alex McCary said prior to the performance.

One challenge was that McCary’s directing partner became ill and missed instructing the local students.

Wolf Point’s young actors performed “Red Riding Hood,” in the high school auditorium on Saturday, March 7.

The turnout of actors was 32 students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. They practiced after school throughout the week.

“It’s really important because MCP stresses that stage skills teaches life skills,” McCary said.

In addition, workshops took place at Wolf Point’s elementary schools on Wednesday, March 4, and at the junior high school on Thursday, March 5.

Lessons taught at the junior high school included thinking fast and cooperation.

Part of the fun was McCary pretending to have a camera, and then the students needed to say which jungle animal that they were. That took some fast thinking for all students.

McCary discussed the importance and fun of improv.

“Everything in improv can be used in just about anything,” McCary said.

Wolf Point was the sixth school on their tour of eastern Montana schools. They are planning to share their talents at six additional schools.

According to its website, the Missoula Children’s Theatre aims to empower children and adults through theatre education and performance to develop lifelong skills while enriching communities worldwide through live productions.

The group’s values include inclusivity, empowerment, lifelong learning, community enrichment and excellence.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre will be conducted in Culbertson this week.
