Poplar Girls Drop League Game Against Malta, 67-44

 

Malta took control in the third quarter to down Poplar’s girls by a 67-44 final in Poplar on Saturday, Jan. 25.

A three-pointer by Poplar’s Cammie Martell pulled the Indians to 25-21 to end the first half.

Poplar came out strong in the third quarter as a basket by Journey Gourneau, a free throw by Braelyn Nordwick and a three-pointer by Martell cut the margin to 28-27.

Malta’s Neva Jacobson nailed a pair of three-pointers to increase the gap to seven points.

After a drive by Nordwick, Malta ran off the next 10 points including three-pointers by Emree Stuart and Tailynn Wilke for a 44-29 lead.

Malta went on to lead 47-33 at the end of the third quarter and then scored 20 points in the final period.

Poplar’s top scorers were Nordwick with 14 and Martell with 10. Also scoring were Mattie Ayers with eight, Bailey Dupree with six, Gourneau with four and Toni Brown with two.

Leading Malta were Jacobson with 20, Denvyr Tuss with 13 and Stuart with 12 points.

The Indians will travel to Froid/Lake on Thursday, Jan. 30, and host Harlem on Saturday, Feb. 2.
