Bulldogs Break Away Against Plentywood


Bainville’s girls’ basketball team took control in the fourth quarter to knock off defending district champion Plentywood, 41-32, during action in Bainville on Friday, Jan. 10.
The Bulldogs ended the third period with the last five points on a pair of free throws by Elsie Wilson and a three-pointer by Addison Hansen to take a 29-26 lead.
Bainville then accounted for the first 10 points of the fourth quarter en route to the victory. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Tally Berwick off a rebound, Wilson with three free throws and Hansen with a short jumper and three-pointer.
Plentywood’s first point against Bainville’s defense in the quarter came on a free throw by Tessa Howard with 1:57 remaining. The Bulldogs broke Plentywood’s press to score on a layup by Hansen for a 41-27 with only 1:20 left.
Hansen led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Also scoring were Lila Butikofer with eight, Wilson with seven, Hailey Berwick with five, T. Berwick with four, Miah Pippenger with three and Chandi Johnson with two points.
Mallory Tommerup scored 14 points for the Wildcats.
Bainville trailed 11-10 early in the second period until the Bulldogs ran off 10 straight points on a three-pointer by H. Berwick, four points by Butikofer and a three-pointer by Pippenger. The Bulldogs held a 20-14 half-time advantage.
The Wildcats responded with a solid third quarter and took a 26-24 lead when Tommerup fired in a three-pointer with 2:07 left in the period.
In the boys’ game, Bainville put up a good fight but lost to powerhouse Plentywood by a 65-44 final.
After Plentywood jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter, the Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats, 14-12, in the second period to close the margin to 29-20.
Plentywood then struck for 21 points in the third quarter to increase its lead to 50-29.
Rowan Wilson accounted for 19 of Bainville’s points.
Rounding out the scoring were Reed Winn with eight, Isaiah Bjorge with six, Kaiden Holmes with five, Parker Berwick with four and Seth Pacovsky with two.
Carson Solberg led the Wildcats with 20 points.
