Lustre Boys Shoot To Contend For State Honors Again

After bringing home the third-place trophy from the Class C state tournament last year, the Lustre Christian Lions look to add to their hardware this boys’ basketball season.
Returning starters for the explosive Lions are All-State selection Johnslee Pierre, a 6-5 junior; All-Conference selection Byron Ewing, a 6-5 senior; and Clay Reddig, a 6-3 senior.
Sophomore Cam Reddig, who earned All-Conference honors as a freshman, and sophomore Prestyn Klatt also saw plenty of varsity playing action last season.
“It’s going to be a fun year,” Coach Randy Reddig said. “We will be 10-12 players deep again.”
The coach said the majority of players participated in a lot of games this summer. Pierre was invited to play for Montana Elite. Pierre and Cam Reddig were on traveling teams.
The Lions qualified for their first state basketball tournament in 2023 and won one game at that tournament. Last season, they earned the thirdplace trophy.
Lustre is looking to take yet another step this time around.
“That’s the goal,” Coach Reddig said. “Hopefully, we skip one step though.”
An exciting addition to Lustre’s schedule is playing at Manhattan Christian and at Manhattan on Dec 13-14.
“Manhattan Christian invited us a couple of years ago actually,” Coach Reddig said. Fundraising was done to make it happen. There a few Lustre Christian graduates who live in the Manhattan area.
“There are some connections,” he said. The coach expects strong challenges from Scobey and Circle in the league standings. “Our district is as good as any in the state,” he added.
