Bainville’s boys’ basketball squad doesn’t return much varsity experience, but the Bulldogs figure to be in the battle for a divisional berth this season.

The Bulldogs need to replace six seniors who played the majority of minutes last season.

“It’s a group that played well together in the past,” Bainville Coach Shawn Romo said of this year’s players. “So, I think they will merge quickly.”

The three seniors on the squad are Reed Winn, Trevor Robertus and Isaiah Bjorge. Robertus is expected to return to action in January after recovering from a football injury.

Players with the most varsity experience are Robertus, Bjorge, Rowan Wilson and Winn.

The program features 17 total players. “It’s a pretty good number. Participation is high,” Romo said.

Strengths for the Bulldogs are expected to include speed and playing together.

The squad’s tallest player is in the 6-1 to 6-2 range. “We’re not necessarily short, but we aren’t super tall,” Romo said.

A benefit for the Bulldogs is a winning attitude after taking first place in the football standings.

“I’m hopeful that confidence is going forward,” Romo said.

The Bulldogs will open their season against Terry in Glasgow on Friday, Dec. 6, and then against Ray, N.D. in Watford City, N.D. on Saturday, Dec. 14.
