Committee Dedicated To Good Appearance
Looking To Improve
Although Clean Sweep is a successful time for Wolf Point’s residents to spruce up the community, the goal of a continuous positive appearance takes both commitment and dedication.
The Wolf Point Beautification Committee’s efforts show the group’s pride in the town. The committee’s volunteers include Duane and Rosie Kurokawa, Sue Broesder, Barbara Olson, Ann Wienke and Irene Tjon.
The beautification committee was originally started by Marvin and Kay Presser and Chuck and Renee Worley several decades ago. Those individuals, along with other community-minded individuals, were the ones who established the green areas located on many Wolf Point corners on U.S. Highway 2.
The current committee members keep busy by watering planters at many spots including near Git-n-Go, Eddy Bauer Sales, the Triple J Properties office complex, Curtiss Farm & Auto, Old Town Grill, Steve’s Auto and Stuff, Rx Car Wash and Oil and across from the Montana State Highway Department on Montana Highway 25.
“We want it to look good, not just for local people, but people going through town to show we’re a caring community,” Olson said. “We feel our efforts show that.”
The group is thankful that Friesen’s Floral and Greenhouse provides a discount on flowers for the planters and the Fort Peck Tribes helps sponsor the clean-up.
“We’re trying to keep Wolf Point inviting,” Olson said.
Among the work done by Duane and Rosie Kurokawa includes planting and fertilizing flowers at the location across from the highway department.
The committee stresses that it’s a community effort to keep giving Wolf Point a pleasant appearance. They urge walkers to carry a garbage bag with them and pick up items if they come across litter.
“People need to look around and see what needs to be done to make the community look better,” Olson said.
