After a tight first half, Bainville’s girls’ basketball team stepped up its play in the second half to defeat Froid/Lake by a 45-23 final.

Ahead by only a 16-12 halftime margin and 18-14 early in the third quarter, Bainville rolled off six straight points as Elsie Wilson connected on a three-pointer and pullup jumper and Brecklyn Pippenger sank a free throw.

Froid/Lake’s Addison Elvsaas hit a free throw to end the streak, but the Bulldogs struck on a baseline shot by Hailey Berwick, a 16-footer by Wilson and a 12-footer by Miah Pippenger after a steal by H. Berwick.

The Red Hawks fought back on a three-pointer by Isabelle Nordwick, but a layup by Addison Hansen put the score at 32-18 at the end of the third quarter.

A drive by Brooklynn Nordwick and a free throw by Mara Salvevold got the Red Hawks off to a strong start in the fourth quarter to cut the margin to 32-21.

Another basket by B. Nordwick resulted in a 35-23 score with 4:43 left, but Bainville accounted for the game’s final 10 points including a hoop by Hansen off a fantastic pass from Wilson starting the streak.

H. Berwick and Wilson led the Bulldogs with 10 points each. M. Pippenger and Hansen added eight points each. Also scoring were B. Pippenger with five, Chandi Johnson with two and Tally Berwick with two points.

B. Nordwick scored 10 points for the Red Hawks. Salvevold and I. Nordwick added four points each. Jaeleigh Davison had two points. Adding a point each were Elvsaas, Avery Johnson and Lilly Johnson.

Three-pointers by H. Berwick and M. Pippenger led the Bulldogs to a 10-3 advantage in the first quarter.

Down by a 14-7 score, the Red Hawks accounted for five of the last seven points of the first half on the scoring of B. Nordwick, A. Johnson and Davidson.
