Froid/Lake Downs Culbertson, 55-44
The Froid-Lake Red Hawks fought off the Culbertson Cowboys, 55-44, in a District 2C battle on Friday, Jan. 26.
The Red Hawks held a slim 23-22 half-time lead and increased the margin to 32-26 on a three-pointer by Daniel Forizs in the third quarter.
Culbertson battled back on baskets by Nyreece Halvorson and Bridger Salvevold, but Froid/Lake’s Mason Dethman answered with three straight points.
After Halvorson fired in a three-pointer, Dethman scored off a rebound at the buzzer for a 37-33 lead to end the third quarter.
The Red Hawks started fast in the fourth quarter as a three-pointer by Cody Olson and a pair of free throws by Dethman put the gap at 42-33. The Cowboys kept the heat on with the scoring of Gavin Deen, but Froid/Lake’s Joseph Robertson then connected from the corner for a 49-37 lead with three minutes to play.
With the score at 51-41 with two minutes remaining, the Red Hawks struck on a basket by Robertson and free throws by Dethman.
Froid/Lake’s top scorers were Landon Kelm with 16 points including three three-pointers, Dethman with 13 and Robertson with 10. Also scoring were Nate Stentoft with eight, Forizs with five and Olson with three.
Leading the Cowboys were Salvevold with 15, Halvorson with 13 and Deen with 10 points. Donte Eagle Boy added six points.
