The Lustre Lions scored 19 points in the first quarter and downed Bainville, 62-31, during non-conference boys’ basketball action in Lustre on Saturday, Jan. 27.

A pair of three-pointers by Cayden Klatt got the Lions off to a good start at 6-2, but Bainville’s Samuel Butikofer responded with a three-pointer of his own to keep the game tight.

Two baskets, including a dunk, by Johnslee Pierce put the Lions up by a 12-7 score. A three-pointer by Clay Reddig and a pair of free throws by Prestyn Klatt increased the margin at 17-7.

Pierre ended the quarter with a nice inside move to increase Lustre’s advantage to 19-7 at the end of the quarter.

The Lions then struck for the first four points of the second period on hoops by Pierre and Terran Joseph.

Bainville’s S. Butikofer led the Bulldogs back to 26-12, but Lustre accounted for the last seven points of the half on two inside baskets by Byron Ewing and a three-pointer by C. Ewing for a 33-12 half-time advantage.

After leading 44-22 at the end of the third quarter, the Lions struck for 18 more points in the fourth quarter.

C. Klatt and Pierre led the Lions with 12 points each. P. Klatt and Ewing finished with nine points.

Also scoring for Lustre were Joseph with seven, Clay Reddig with seven, Cam Reddig with two Diek Olfert with two and Nathan Fast with two.

Chuck Butikofer and S. Butikofer led the Bulldogs with 13 points each. Cayden Boyd scored two and Alex Strickland had a point.
