Froid/Lake’s girls’ basketball team displayed signs of offensive improvement in the second half, but the Red Hawks lost against Lustre, 4737, at the Scobey Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 9.

The Red Hawks trailed by a 21-11 half-time margin, but two free throws by Mara Salvevold and a drive by Isabelle Nordwick closed the margin to seven points early in the third quarter.

Four straight free throws by Salvevold kept the Red Hawks close at 25-19. Lustre responded with the next six points including four by Alexa Reddig.

Froid/Lake battled back to 32-27 on a 16-footer by Keira Stentoft and five points by I. Nordwick. The Lions, however, gained momentum back when a close foul call resulted in three points by Kencia Brown to put Lustre up 37-27 at the end of the quarter.

Lustre opened the fourth quarter with four quick points on a steal and layup by Brown and a drive by Reddig. After Stentoft accounted for a three-point play, Lustre’s Reddig hit a 17-footer.

The scoring of Lilly Johnson and Brooklynn Nordwick were highlights for Froid/ Lake down the stretch.

Top scorers for the Red Hawks were Salvevold with 11 and I. Nordwick with nine points.

Also scoring were Stentoft with six, B. Nordwick with five, Johnson with four and Addison Elvsaas with two points.

Leading Lustre were Brown with 19, Reddig with 11 and Aubri Holzrichter with eight points.

The Red Hawks will face MonDak in Medicine Lake on Saturday, Dec. 16.
