Indians Earn Titles In Sidney

 

Poplar had two wrestlers earn championships during the Eagle Invitational held in Sidney on Friday and Saturday.

Angelina Escarcega won the title in the girls’ division at 107 pounds. The junior pinned Lockwood’s Evelyn Arciga in 3:14 for the championship.

Escarcega won her quarter- final match against Irini Poka of Rapid City, S.D., with a fall at 1:39 and pinned her semi-final round opponent Taylor Brouillette of Williston, N.D., in 1:40.

Poplar’s Blake Follette came away with top honors at 114 pounds in the girls’ division. Follette opened action by pinning Maci Brouillette of Williston in 1:36. Follette then defeated teammate Alara Parshall by a 7-2 margin. Follette pinned Lockwood’s Rossi Gookin in 3:53 for the title.

Parshall placed fourth at 114 pounds. She won two matches on pins.

Thea Weeks took fifth place at 132 pounds. She won one match on a fall and one of her defeats came in overtime.

In the boys’ division, Navarjo Escarcega placed fourth at 138 pounds. He earned three victories at the tournament.

Placing eighth in the JV competition were Mickey Failing at 120 pounds, Nicholas Diserly at 145 pounds, Zane Dupree at 170 pounds and Rollen Spotted Bull at 285 pounds.
