Froid Town Meeting Covers ARPA, RCSO
Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Patrick O’Connor visited the Froid Town Council meeting July 10, along with Deputy Michael Ellerton, who listed the number of citations and calls for service in the area.
O’Connor spent some time unpacking projected budget increases with the council and audience. He stressed how expensive law enforcement efforts have become and said the sheriff’s office is short staffed with the departures of two respected deputies, including Sgt. Tim Lingle.
“I’ve got two positions open and zero applicants,” O’Connor said. He encouraged community members to reach out with questions or concerns.
Clerk LeAnn Johnson said the town was due to receive increased BaRSAA gas tax payments of approximately $94,000 over 2023/24. The funds are to be used for repairs to town streets. She cautioned the increased funding has been conditioned as onetime payments.
An ordinance variance was granted by a vote of the council to an area resident seeking to build a fence.
During public works, it was reported that weeds are getting nasty around the lagoon.
Minutes were read aloud and approved, as were payroll and claims.
